Parent resource - EHD Experiments at the Ghosh Lab

Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) Drying is an upcoming drying technique for food and bio-materials. One of the major driving mechanisms of EHD drying is the electric wind, which is generated in the presence of a non-uniform electric field. This non-uniform electric field is generated when high voltage is applied across two electrodes having different radii of curvature. In these experiments, we will explore the fascinating phenomenon of discharges in gases, which constitutes an entire unexplored universe in itself. TASK - 1: The first task is advanced literature review, which will be based on getting the information which can give maximum benefits with minimum efforts, existing facilities, and known calculation tools and/or techniques. TASK - 2: The second task is based on conducting basic experimentation for flow and boundary layer visualization using Schlieren and/or PIV measurements. TASK - 3: The third task is based on conducting advanced experimentation relating to characterizing the plasma composition using PLIF measurements. This will also include exploring 2D and 3D measurements for characterizing several other characteristics such as temperature profile. TASK - 4: The last task will be performed concomitantly with task-3. This task will involve the setting up of arc discharge at the inlet of hydrogen gas purging in the combustion chamber. TASK - 5: This task involves helping the BTP student in his endeavors to apply high voltage in his experimentation. Also, some fun experiments will be developed for UG students.
